“The facetious proposition that if something can go wrong, it will.”
When it comes to parenting, Murphy’s Law is usually in full throttle. Let’s take this weekend for example. My husband had his annual guys golf weekend planned. Every year it’s a few months of planning and then off they go for a weekend of golfing fun. Works for me! And, don’t worry, I get a weekend away with my girlfriends in there, too. This year was a little different because we now have a 5 month old. She’s pretty good and my toddler helps out so it didn’t seem like it’d be too much stress for the weekend. Right?!
Last Tuesday, our 5 month old came down with a nasty ear infection, cold and cough which included some wheezing. You guessed it! Antibiotics for the ears and nebulizer treatments (for the wheezing). She improved over the week only for our 3 1/2 year old to come down with a fever just hours before the golf weekend departure. Reluctantly, my husband went off on his adventure while I stayed home with the kids.
I canceled the play date and plans I had lined up for Saturday and Sunday. Can’t bring my little ones to play with other babies when they are sick. A beautiful, sunny weekend ahead and we were home bound.
Saturday: The day started at 5am….
Baby with coughing attacks, the runs from the antibiotics and overall the most fussy she has ever been. Toddler with 102 degree temperature, achy and whiny from the cold that progressed. Back and forth, back and forth, back and forth like a tennis match trying to console both. It felt like it had been 3 days by noon.
Snot. Poop. Cough. Snot. Poop. Cough.
Repeat, repeat, repeat!
I thought, a glass of wine? Hmm. A little early for that.
Snot. Poop. Cough. Snot. Poop. Cough.
Repeat, repeat, repeat!
What was a mom to do?!
and there it was like a little oasis of joy….make brownies…
With the fever reducer working on my son and my baby finally snoozing. It was time to take action! A fun way to get him involved with measuring, stirring and baking the brownies. And an even better way for me to indulge in one of my faves!
Cut, bite, enjoy… repeat! Cut, bite, enjoy… repeat!
Yes, some comfort food was in order! Brownies didn’t exactly save the day or the next horrendous night to follow. Never the less, the multiple brownies I ate ended up being the little slice of heaven that helped ease the stress of the weekend!
