You Know You’re A Working Mom When…

  • You wake up before the crack of dawn to squeeze in the workout, a cup of coffee, breakfast and rush to get ready before the kiddies wake up.
  • You have just a few sets of work clothes in the weekly rotation because trying to be cute or creative just will not happen in the morning.
  • You are a bit relieved after daycare drop-off because you know you’ll get a bit time to relax during the commute of all things and before the work day starts rolling.
  • You pass on the free cocktails and appetizers after work since you’d rather go home to juice and cracker snacks with your little one.
  • You see the cast of Yo Gabba Gabba when you look around the conference room during an all-hands meeting instead of seeing your co-workers.
  • You wear your hair in a bun for the third day in the row to work and wonder if other people can tell how dirty it is. Who has the time to wash it?
  • You look forward to payday only to use your hard earned money to pay the two daycare bills that are soon to follow.
  • You would rather blog about being a working mom than do your work.
  • You pass on travel if you can because you’d rather be home with the kids.
  • You try to get home as fast as you can after that long day to kiss, hug and love your kiddies because within 12 hours the drill starts over again.

You take a moment to reflect on how lucky you are…juggling it all is tough but you manage to enjoy the special moments, let the stressful ones pass and allow yourself to relax a bit now and then.

Thanks all! I know, the working out in the morning is a bit crazy but I really enjoy it. I used to do it at night before kids… Suzanne… you are a lucky lady with the 3 minute commute! I'd take that any day 🙂

Ahh, the working out part? I manage to lift weights at the office for 5 minutes during my lunch. That's about it.My commute? A 3 minute drive after dropping 3 kids at their respective schools. Barely long enough to listen a to favorite song.Wednesdays off? I went grocery shopping, I'm baking cupcakes right now and I'm about to scrub my kitchen floor. All of this? Priceless, it is a fleeting season!

Personally I hit my snooze button no less than two times (hopefully 5), and then try to hop in the shower before my little one wakes up! I wish I had the motivation to work out on weekday mornings, but happy to say I fit it in in the evenings, and Saturday mornings!! Great list Steph…oh so true for us working mommies!!

I can related to every single one of those on that list. And I couldn't imagine life any different! 🙂 Glad to have found your blog through WMW!

Visiting from WMW! Like you, I always try to squeeze every minute in with the kids. But I've been really bad with those early morning workouts. But once they're up, there's no hope of working out.

When I have to go out for a meeting or an interview, I totally plan the outfit out a few days ahead of time so I don't end up looking like a total shlub by waiting until the last minute!

Thanks so much for your kind comments on my blog. Your encouragement means a lot to me. I've been so blessed by people's responses – it's humbling and overwhelming. Thank you!I love this post… even though I'm not a full-time "working mom" in the capacity you're talking about. I must admit, I envy your commute a little bit. What a nice time to have some space, quiet, time to think, or just listen to some music and sing a long and unwind, etc etc. Love it! 🙂
