Book Review: Someday Is Not a Day in the Week

Someday Is Not a Day in the Week, written by Sam Horn, includes 10 hacks to make the rest of your life the best of your life.

The book was a delightful surprise that I would have never expected. It was a random find really. I was shopping at the Dollar Tree with my daughter and stumbled across it in the book section while she looked for coloring crayons. I thumbed through a few pages and bought it since it was just a dollar.

It has several tips and techniques to evaluate where you’re at in your life and what you’d like to change. Change comes with so many fears and thoughts. It’s hard for us to think about something big we want to do without the inevitable “I’ll get to it someday.” thought pattern. Horne’s book will help you change that way of thinking.

About the Book

Sam takes us on a journey with her storytelling and practical solutions to everyday issues like getting started. Many of us procrastinate and get stuck in the thought pattern that “someday” I’ll get to do XYZ. Her father did that exact thing. He waited until he retired to travel and his dream was cut short by his untimely death shortly after he retired. His “someday” never came.

The journey you will explore with Sam comes in the form of her Year by the Water. It was a time that she took her business on the road and traveled to ask people about happiness. Are you happy with your life, health, relationships, work, and legacy? Those are big questions with heavy answers we pass over without making changes. That’s when we fall into the someday trap and put our dreams and goals off for another time

Your happiness is in your hands. If you don’t like what is happening, it’s up to you to do something about it.

~ Sam Horne, Author

She outlines her 10 hacks that will help you not only evaluate your life but also help you get started with small steps that can lead to great opportunities.

  1. Evaluate
  2. Generate
  3. Abdicate
  4. Initiate
  5. Celebrate
  6. Affiliate
  7. Integrate
  8. Negotiate
  9. Innovate
  10. Relocate

It took me a while to complete the book because of other life things happening. Each time I picked up the book, the chapter I read was perfectly aligned with what I needed to evaluate in my own life. I think the universe was providing what I needed at each reading session.

My favorite chapter was Innovate – A Fresh Start. It included a section titled “Quit Watering Dead Plants” and it provided so much insight about staying stuck. Without giving too much away, if you feel stuck in a job, relationship, or geographically, this particular chapter gives excellent tips to help you navigate change. It could be a change in a grand way or a change in mindset. Either way, you can move away from watering the dead plants that make you feel stuck because those plants are not going to come back to life. You can grow by starting with change.

Your happiness is in your hands. If you don’t like what is happening, it’s up to you to do something about it.

Someday Is Not a Day in the Week was a pleasant surprise from my Dollar Tree find. It’s funny how things will cross your path when you need them the most. We all have hopes, dreams, and aspirations. It’s up to us each to create our best life and a legacy we can be proud of. Let’s not put things off because we can always do it some other time. We may never get the someday, but we have today in front of us just waiting to explore, learn and grow.
